While it sounded like a good idea at the time, permanent makeup can turn into something akin to tattoo regret for a person. The problem with permanent makeup was that once applied, it would take a long time (i.e. ten years) to finally fade away. While basically using the same method, semi-permanent makeup uses material that naturally breaks down sooner. Semi-permanent makeup usually lasts one to three years. Semi-permanent makeup makes sense for all the same reasons that women would want permanent makeup.

The convenience of permanent and semi-permanent makeup is not a hard sell it’s available in most cosmetic clinics. Permanent and semi-permanent makeup has lots of reasons to be enticing:

· Look good as soon as you get up in the morning. Many women do not feel complete without a basic cover of makeup.

· Look good in the water. Finding truly waterproof makeup for the eyes and lips can be hard.

· Look good sweating. You might be burning off the inches but having mascara run down your face is not looking so good.

· Put makeup on faster in the morning. With half of your makeup already on your face, you can get your remaining makeup up on your face much faster than in the past.

· Minimize blotchy skin pigmentation. While not as glamorous as the other procedures, this process can help a person feel better about their skin’s appearance.

· Cover scars. Not having to reapply thick scar hiding cream everyday would be a great benefit to people looking to simplify their morning routines.

· Colouring in a newly constructed areola after surgery to the breast, or any type of breast augmentation.

The advantage to semi-permanent makeup is that the semi-permanent makeup fades sooner. The person does not have to live with their makeup decisions for as long. They gain the flexibility to try something on a short term basis. They can see if it fits in with their lifestyle and personal aesthetics.

Anywhere that permanent makeup can be applied, so can semi-permanent makeup. Popular makeup use include for filling the eyebrows, outlining the eyes, and enhancing the lips. Lip enhancements include lip liner, lip colour, and extending the lip line beyond the current state. The process can also be used for minimizing the appearance of scars. Sunscreen is recommended to minimize colour fading.

Semi-permanent makeup costs about the same as permanent makeup. The labour is practically identical. The materials, while different, do not differ that much in cost. Semi-permanent makeup provides a great opportunity for those for like the idea of permanent makeup but do not want to make a decision they have to live with for up to ten years.
